" Know Your History "

Since tomorrow is the beginning of Hip Hop history month, it's only right that I pull out the flame thrower and sizzle your dome off with some certified heat....

A couple years back, "Turntable Trixters- The Story Of D.J. Supreme & Hijack" hit the scene and it sparked a newfound interest in the influential South London crew.......Here are a couple facts about the group that you might not be aware of...

1...First rap group from Europe to have a major record deal in the States (Warner Brothers-Via Rhyme Syndicate)....

2..Hijack D.J.'s "Undercover & Supreme's" style of scratching had a direct influence on I.S.P. (Invisible Scratch Pickles)..

3..The frontman of the group "Kamanchi Sly" has a P.H.D.

4..After winning a local rap battle, Kamanchi Sly took the prize money and threw it into the crowd declaring " It's not about the money, it's about the art "...............Can you imagine that happening today ?

Label politricks prevented Hijack from receiving the Hip Hop accolades that they truly deserved in the U.S......Back then I was attracted to the group because of their wild imagery and hardrock demeanor.....They posed for pictures rocking ski-mask and karate outfits years before the Wu-Tang dropped......HAHA..

But they didn't rely on gimmicks, they actually had dope beats and you could hear the venom in Kamanchi's voice when he would spit......Unfortunately Hijack disbanded in the early 90's and it doesn't look like their will be a reunion tour anytime soon (Supreme hasn't talked to the other members of the crew since the break up)...

If your a fan of hardcore Hip Hop, or if you just appreciate well put together documentaries: you should spend the next two hours watching this........Appearances by DJ Babu, Q-Bert, Donald D. Ice-T, Afrika Islam, Ice Pick, Blade, Undercover, and of course tons of old Hijack concert footage that will definitely put you in a trance.....

Salute to Supreme & Hijack for bringing their brand of hardcore to the table......Hip Hop Battlefield gives this D.V.D. TWO THUMBS UP.

Enjoy-

Drasar KNOWS

Yes South London crew HIJACK were THE epitomy of the UK hip hop scene! They dropped hardcore bombs on us - lots of uptempo breaks and hyperfast scratches and cuts. Then blaaam Kamanchi Sly would tear the mic to shreads. Good times.

also check GUNSHOT and HARDNOISE for more UK roughneck business!

props from London

Yeah I always liked Gunshot's "Clear From Present Danger" & several other cuts from them.....

I'm not really up on Hardnoise, so I will try to find some shit from them.....

Have been a fan of Hi-Jack since the late 80's.....You would be surprised if you knew how many UK groups made a huge splash in the States ....

Derrick B, Cookie Crew, Mud Family, P Brothers, Task Force, & of course Hi-Jack made a huge impact over here (If you knew what time it was)

Yo- Kool Skool E mail me that audio if you can....ZJUDAH@YAHOO.COM
