" Digging With Drasar - Crate Damage Edition "

Man, where do I begin....

I'm finally recovering from my weekend shenanigans.....Sunday night Mobb Deep got busy at the Mezzanine (SF).....This was the first time I have seen the Mobb and I was truly impressed (Big Noyd even showed up)..

The crowd was full of grimy dudes like myself....You could cut the tension in the air with a butter knife.....SERIOUSLY....Ice grills, copious amounts of blunt steam in the air, fitteds extra low, dudes rocking dark sunglasses indoors, neck tattoos, sloppy drunkards, and all that other wild shit.....

When "Shook Ones 2" started blasting out the speakers this girl directly in front of me straight up fainted.......I'm not talking about a gradual meltdown fam.....Homegirl just dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes out of nowhere.....BLAM....

Good show though.....The Mobb is still in full motherfuckin effect that's for sure (Big up to Kufu, Demik, Brave, and those two TMF dudes for holding our area down HAHA..)....

Anyway, I stopped by my favorite record store "Amoeba" for my weekly diggin ritual.......The only thing I don't like about this spot is that there are no listening stations.....You better know what the fuck you are looking for or your going to waste some papes amigo...

Other than that they are holding the goods......

When I rock this segment I usually post sampling material, but I am always on the hunt for straight up Hip Hop records as well........So here we go troopers...

My computer is acting funny......I took pics of the records but for some reason things are not working, so I will just have to find various pics on the web.....

1..B1 & Large Pro - "Put Yourself In My Place"...

Not sure what B1 is up to these days, but I wish he would release more material......Everything I have heard him on was straight flames...From "Take Em To War", to "Empire Staters", etc.......

Produced by Kool G..... "Stone Groove Records" ..................Not sure when this dropped (doesn't say on the record) but I'm assuming between 1999 - 2004......

"Put Yourself In My Place"...

2..Diaz Brothers (Doo Wop & Tony Touch) - "Click Bang"....

Several groups have freaked this sample before (which will remain nameless) but the Diaz dudes do a nice job of wrecking it....I'm surprised I have never came across this hot piece of wax until now.....

Not sure when this dropped (doesn't say on the record) but I'm assuming between 2001 - 2005......

Perfect for some mixtape burn...Produced by Tony Touch..

"Click Bang"

3..Money Boss Players - "Crap Game"

This song still sounds as good to me as it did the first time I heard it.....It's a damn shame that Hip Hop production has gotten so soft lately...Joints like this will take you back to the essence of this shit...

Smacking drums, abrasive guitar stabs, and plenty Bronx attitude from MBP...........Already had one copy, finally caught another one.....

Warning Records.....Produced by Minnesota..1996

"Crap Game"

4..Kool G.Rap - "Thugs Anthem" ..

Never heard of this one......Glad to see that it comes with an accapella, but the second dude on the mic just doesn't make the cut (I actually deleted his verse)...

G. Rap comes equipped with that gun talk, boulevard bully rap.....Not sure when this dropped (doesn't say on the record) but I'm assuming between 2003 - 2007......

Illstreet / Downlow Records.....

"Thugs Anthem"

I caught some other fresh cuts but I have to keep some jewels for myself....HAHA...

Big up to everyone that comes to the BATTLEFIELD on the daily........Brace yourself for more blazers this week....If you have music that you want to submit - e mail me at ZJUDAH@YAHOO.COM......I promise that I will give it a thorough listen..

Peace-
D

" Strictly Weapons Remixes "

Hopefully you have on your war goggles, bulletproof vest, and helmets because it is warfare time over here on HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD...

Just like I promised "Strictly Weapons Remixes" - wrecked, sliced, flipped, chopped, stretched, and mangled by yours truly, Drasar Monumental...

Nothing but that raw shit pumping out the speakers kid.......I want to send a big shout out to the GBK Crew, Scratch Shamans, Planet, Kendoo, Mad Miguel, NS, Fooders, Rashad, Shyeer, State, Vex, Kufu and the whole GFC, Sha, Daze and all those WST cats, AYAK (Always Yelling At Kidz), HR, Daily Diggers, Kool Skool, Big D.O., Vietnam, California, Six 2 Six, Cold Rock The Spot, Monz, EC, Riff, Jahmel & Liz, and Viben Onerz & Culpa for lacing the cover....

Make sure you listen to this on a decent system or you won't hear the true production sciences popping off....Turn the volume past ten, open your windows, and prepare for another hardcore explosion of sample abuse......BLAM, BLAM....

" Royal Wedding Mix Flavors "

I have some exciting news for the Hip Hop Battlefield posse.....

Tomorrow I will be launching the "Strictly Weapons" remix assault with all beats handled by the captain of this BATTLEFIELD shit (That's me fool HAHA)....For some strange reason I believe it's going to make some fools run for cover when they hear it........

This is not your average, sleep inducing remix project.....I'm talking about an adventure of hardcore beat manipulation....Taylor made wreck geared towards those that gravitate towards explosive material...

No corny jingles, no wack synth lines, no hollow drums, and of course no sanging/singing on the breaks........Nothing but raw turbulence and pressure bangin out of the speakers over here my friend.....

If you thought "Remix Weaponry" was dangerous, "Strictly Weapons" is going to make you tremble in your Timberlands...

The artwork is done, the morale is up, and I'm ready to jump off the top turnbuckle....(R.I.P. Macho Man Randy Savage).....

Anyway, the good dudes over at Fat Lace & Southern Hospitality present the "Royal Wedding" mix with D.J.Superix........WOW......Do the right thing and check in...

" Philly Jewels "

Back in 2000, Philly repper Japhia Life dropped an incredible E.P. "Pages Of Life" on the now defunct Ready Rock Record label........For some strange reason this man does not receive the props that he rightfully deserves.......

The project is packed with fresh beats and introspective rhymes that are flooded with jewels that will force you to hit the rewind button - STRAIGHT UP...........If you are unfamiliar, prepare yourself for some heavy shock treatment...

All beats by Architect.....

"Precious Memories"

"Fortunate"

"Pages Of Life"

" Blog Shots 54 "

If your looking for some quality selections, mixes, musical knowledge, etc..... Head over to the Kenny Blogginz blog for a healthy dose of morale.....

I'm not sure if he updates anymore, but there is enough heat over there to hold you down regardless......One of the post that caught my attention was the "Trap Door Mix" volume 1 that included one of my favorite B-Boy anthems by Can entitled, "Vitamin - C"..........

Peep the visuals........

So head over to the blog and get busy homeboy.....

CHECK IN...

" More Hardcore - Body Snatcher Edition "

"Fiery words from the page / get summoned like souls from the grave".........BLAM.....

Icepick, Grizzly, and the infamous D.J. Supreme made up the U.K. crew, "Body Snatchers"....Even though their Genocide E.P. is worth a pretty penny (I've heard stories of people paying 1000 dollars for it) there is only one track on there that is a certified burner in my opinion....

"M.C. Killer" is the kind of record you play right before you decide to push someone off a cliff......If this doesn't make you want to set it off, you should get your pulse checked.......

Big up to all my dudes in the U.K. who know what time it is: Beat Detective, Kid Dyno, Kool Skool, Phillie, etc.....

" Rubberoom Rebooted Wreck "

Even though I am a die-hard Rubberoom supporter, I wasn't feeling one of their newest tracks, "It's On" when I heard it a few weeks ago......Wasn't bad, I was just expecting more since they haven't recorded together in quite sometime.....

Thank goodness they fully redeemed themselves with this Rebooted mixtape full of bangers, remixes (Makers remix of White Hot Razors is crazy), B-Sides, etc.......

I'm glad to hear that they are recording as a unit again.....Looking forward to hearing more hardcore chaos from these Chicago madmen..

" Champion Hoodie Mix "

Konny Kon supplies us with over an hour of Hip Hop rockets past and present......You will hear joints from U.N., Evil Ed, Mic Geronimo, Brain Sick Mob, Raekwon, Real Live, Cappo, etc.....

" Wais P - It's In The Game "

Before I even get started I gotta mention that I believe pimps are some of the biggest scumbags you will ever meet....Anyone that takes advantage of dizzy women for the sake of money has some real issues....

Don't get me wrong- many women willingly play the game without being forced into that lifestyle....Shiiiit, some of them even believe that being a prostitute elevates them into a glamorous career....But I believe we need to spend more time trying to build our women up, instead of perpetuating negativity and typical behavior........

Everyone has a mother......Some of you cats have sisters and daughters so you should know better famz.....

With that being said, I am still a Hip Hop head and I tend to gravitate towards the grimier side of things.......Even though I am a civilized brother, I mostly listen to hardcore material .......For example, ex- Ranjah "Wais P" spits that pimp shit in his bars over fresh production by Preemo, Statik Selektah, Sebb, Shuko, and others on his latest mixtape, "It's In The Game"......

TAKE A LISTEN....

" Jake One On The Decks "

Let me start this off by saying that this new album by Neek The Exotic is ten times better than his debut album (Exotic's Raw)...On his newest outing he combines forces with that "live guy with glasses" Large Pro for a solid album.....Nothing on the level of Faking The Funk but a enjoyable listen nevertheless....

" Hip Hop Holiday "

Where do I begin ?

This last weekend I had the opportunity to witness some extra terrestrial Hip Hop chaos....STRAIGHT UP.....A couple of my homeboys shared the stage with the legend Q-Bert (Yeah dude is a real live legend, unlike some of these clowns who really don't deserve that title).....

I cannot disclose their names because Q-Bert has them on a strictly 007 turntable assassin steez (Dudes were even rocking crazy ass outfits so you couldn't detect their identity)........They decided to label themselves the "Scratch Shamans" because they are dead serious when it comes to cutting shit the fuck up........I'm really excited for these two because they have put in so much work over the years....Real dedication.....Real discipline....Real study.....

SALUTE.......

The show popped off in S.F. at Yoshi's Jazz club......A fly place with mad history (It used to be the headquarters for the Black Panther Party of S.F.), atmosphere, and a crazy house system that pumped an insane amount of low end........

The party people were most definitely in the house.....Gorgeous females, scratch stalkers, B-Boys and all that other 2011 shit.....After the trio totally destroyed the place with technical yet flavorful scratches, the crew and I headed over to Q-Bert's
house for more action.....

As I entered the living room, I spot "Q" sitting on a stool (Does this guy ever rest) slicing phrases up something lovely.....Next to him was the infamous mad man, "DJ Swamp".........I thought to myself, "Damn it's 3:00 o'clock in the morning and Q is scratching like it's 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon"......I'm talking about serious dedication folks........

4:00 o'clock rolls around but "Q" is just getting warmed up......Nonstop ill patterns are popping off and I'm bugging the fuck out at this point......I had a video camera on me and all that- but I didn't want to be that thirsty dude trying to get footage and ruining the vibe with that paparazzi fuckery......

I'm tempted to hop on the decks alongside "Q".......I definitely practice my scratches on the daily so I'm somewhat secure with my level of cutting......Then it hit me- fall back "D", this is the first time at dudes house, it's 4:30 in the morning and you are not built like that..........So what did I do, I fell back like any self-respecting dude would and played position......

What a night...I want to send a shout out to the "Scratch Shamans", I have known you cats for over a decade now...Congrats fam, the crew is looking extra ill right now...Planet, Mad Miguel, Young Prize, Kufi, El, Bron, Marks, Franz, State, Kendoo, motherfuckin Bas-One (I didn't know you scratch fool HAHA), Swamp, Toad Man (HAHA), and everyone else that came through...

Anyway, here is a little footage of the show for all those that couldn't make it out.......DONT SLEEP...

WOW.....MORE ACTION....

" Monday Morning Mayhem "

My weekend was absolutely insane.....I'm talking some real live Hip Hop holiday shit...SERIOUSLY...

I will talk about that later on today......Until then, enjoy this sure shot mix from the good folks over at "Crates Of A.G.".......WOW..

When I listened to this a couple days ago I was very surprised at how ill the selections were......Do yourself a favor and start your Monday off on the right foot.....This is what A Kutt had to say regarding this particular session....

"Even though the vinyl market is shrinking..there's not one single month without any of the dope unreleased limited edition records from the usual suspects such as one leg up, diggers with gratitude, chopped herring, vinyl addicts, six2six, ipower, no sleep, freestyle records, solid ground, dope folks etc. i grabbed a bunch of these from the last couple of years and did a mix for you guys. 56mins! i'm sure there will be a part 2."

" Know Your History "

Every once in awhile I will repost something for all of you cats that are too lazy to dig in the Hip Hop battlefield files.........I have been rocking since 2007 so there are quite a few pages to sort through (If you have any spare time on your hands you will find countless gems).....

* Original post date October 31st 2010....

A couple years back, "Turntable Trixters- The Story Of D.J. Supreme & Hijack" hit the scene and it sparked a newfound interest in the influential South London crew.......Here are a couple facts about the group that you might not be aware of...

1...First rap group from Europe to have a major record deal in the States (Warner Brothers-Via Rhyme Syndicate)....

2..Hijack D.J.'s "Undercover & Supreme's" style of scratching had a direct influence on I.S.P. (Invisible Scratch Pickles)..

3..The frontman of the group "Kamanchi Sly" has a P.H.D.

4..After winning a local rap battle, Kamanchi Sly took the prize money and threw it into the crowd declaring " It's not about the money, it's about the art "...............Can you imagine that happening today ?

Label politricks prevented Hijack from receiving the Hip Hop accolades that they truly deserved in the U.S......Back then I was attracted to the group because of their wild imagery and hardrock demeanor.....They posed for pictures rocking ski-mask and karate outfits years before the Wu-Tang dropped......HAHA..

But they didn't rely on gimmicks, they actually had dope beats and you could hear the venom in Kamanchi's voice when he would spit......Unfortunately Hijack disbanded in the early 90's and it doesn't look like their will be a reunion tour anytime soon (Supreme hasn't talked to the other members of the crew since the break up)...

If your a fan of hardcore Hip Hop, or if you just appreciate well put together documentaries: you should spend the next two hours watching this........Appearances by DJ Babu, Q-Bert, Donald D. Ice-T, Afrika Islam, Ice Pick, Blade, Undercover, and of course tons of old Hijack concert footage that will definitely put you in a trance.....

Salute to Supreme & Hijack for bringing their brand of hardcore to the table......Hip Hop Battlefield gives this D.V.D. TWO THUMBS UP.

Enjoy-
