" Wax Weapons 31 "
A wise man once told me, "A real D.J. does real things kid".......HAHAHAHA....
So I decided to push the record button while flipping through some of the crates earlier today.....Instead of rocking the vocal versions I went back to the original recipe of what Wax Weapons was all about : Fly instrumentals....
Sometimes I get tired of all that wierdo shit dudes be yelling....It's good to let the beats knock every once in awhile and catch a zone without lyrics attached to it (Ya Feel Me)...
You should know the drill by now buddy- Blends, ill selections, and all that other GET BIZ KIDZ shit.....ALL VINYL.......BLAMZ..

I seriously doubt I need to go into detail about who Jazzy J is...I'm quite sure all of my Hip Hop battlefield readers are well versed about his contributions to this art form......
But how many of you have actually heard a live set from this BX legend ?.......Now is your opportunity to dissect a 80 minute long session by Jazzy from the early 80's on 98.7 Kiss FM.....

" New Shit On Deck "
The Gangrene album "Gutter Water" definitely had it's shining moments.....On a scale from 1-10, I would have to give the duo a 6+...
The score would be higher if I heard some better rhymes on the project.....On one song Alchemist resorted to spitting elementary lines like, "Jumping out the trash can like Oscar The Grouch".......Now if I was to spit some shit like that motherfuckers would try their hardest to ban me from the cipher.....
With that being said, "Gutter Water" was loaded with nasty, raw beats.......Here is a remix that wasn't included on the album, "Demons" featuring Evidence and Fashawn...

" Math Shots "
Since it is Friday it's only right that I hit you off with some official torpedos for your weekend antics....Toronto's "Mathematik" deserves more recognition for his impressive style of rhyming......Instead of flipping run of the mill braggadocio type lines, he speaks with substance, agility, and of course 5 % mathematics....
With so many cats fighting for mic time it's easy to get lost in the sauce, especially if your from Canada....Unfortunately many in the U.S. are unaware of his skills..
Math was once down with a crew called "Down To Erf" and they released a fresh E.P in 1998 (Rhyme Training).....Give these cuts a listen if you know what's good for you...
"To Each His Own"
""Learn To Earn"
Mathematik is still doing his thing......Here is a video for a cut he dropped in 2010 (Get Up).....I prefer his older material, but this song is worthy of mixtape burn...
" 415 Splash Off, Part 2 "
" Reading Is Fundamental "
I'm not one of those dudes that is constantly posted up in front of the television all the time.....If I'm not on the turntables in the lab, more than likely I'm reading a book.....
Just copped the new book by Dan Charnas, "The Big Payback"......645 pages of critical information that had me bugging the fuck out......SERIOUSLY.....Somehow Dan managed to bring something to the table that hasn't been done before....
Here are some interesting facts according to this book that caught my attention...
1..Krush Groove earned 3 million in it's first weekend...
2..Rick Rubin designed the Def Jam logo..
3..Fab Five Freddy was supposed to take part in the classic song "Buffalo Gals", but instead passed off the opportunity to the World Famous Supreme Team...
4..Sylvia Robinson (Sugar Hill) rejected a free video for "White Lines" made by Spike Lee in the early 80's....
5..Run D.M.C. were given only two thousand dollars to record the single, "It's Like That" on Profile Records....
6..Planet Rock sold 650,000 12-inch singles for Tommy Boy-and was certified gold on September 16, 1982....
7..Dr.Jeckyll & Mr.Hyde were Profile Records first real artist, and they were offered two thousand dollars to publish all the songs they would record for the label..
8..Egyptian Lover is not even Egyptian, and his real name is Greg Broussard.....HAHA..
I think you get the point by now that this book is very in-depth and packed with all types of Hip hop jewelry.....If your a dedicated Hip Hop student like myself you can cop the book

" D.J. Pump Rocks The Disco Breaks "
I posted up this superb mix by D.J. Pump over a year ago, but after listening to it again recently I had to give this one some more shines.....
Pure action from beginning to end.......
Dope selections, funky and technical at the same time, swift scratches, well thought out composition, and that extra special spice to help guide you through repeated listening sessions without boredom creeping in.......If I had to rate this mix I would give it a solid B+.....
So do the right thing and scoop this up quick homeboy.....

* Photo of D.J. Shame's living room wall.....
Here are a handful of Vinyl Reanimators remixes that will put a little pep in your step......The trio from Massachusetts (Sean C., D.J. Shame, and Joe Mansfield) put out so much heat in the mid-late 90's that it was ridiculous....

" Milkcrate Jewelz 27 "
Ahhhhhhhh, this brings me back to a period in my life where even if you were a thorough dude you could still "get it" at anytime....If you tried to come to school rocking a Starter parka jacket acting brand new, you might end up getting body slammed and stripped of your coat before recess....
For real.....When this came out everybody was out to show that they were grimier than the next dude and they would go to the furthest extent to prove it.....1989, the year of nonstop drama in California..
"What set you from ?"......"Why are you rocking those colors?"......."Do you want to get jumped in to the set?"......"Are you ready to put in work?".........Yeah man, if you weren't connected to some type of crew you had no wins....Even if you were down with a clique you had to be ready for anything, anytime, anywhere and you still might end up losing.........
I'm thankful that I made it through that period because it was very unpredictable and unmerciful........
This is the first song that I heard from C.M.W. (This Is Compton)......
This is west coast hardcore done properly..Ill piano loop, scratches on the breaks, heavy amounts of bass, and plenty death threats = WIN....
"This Is Compton" - Produced by D.J. Slip.........BLAMZ..
" Milkcrate Jewelz 26 "
For this week's "Milkcrate Jewelz" I'm going to take you on another dusty journey through the depths of my crates...... While flipping through the stacks I spotted a record I haven't touched in quite sometime...
The Flavor Unit "Roll With The Flava" L.P........When I copped this back in 93, everyone was pumping Zhane's "Hey Mr. D.J."......I can't front, I NEVER liked the song and it got so much burn at the time it actually gave me a pounding headache every time I heard it...
D-Nice had a descent song on the compilation entitled "Ugh", but for some reason it didn't really catch on......Nikki D , Apache, and the Rotten Rascals also contributed some spices to the project......
For a short period of time Mr. Twin Glocks "Freddie Foxx" rolled with the Flava Unit....It seemed like a perfect match, but somehow he got lost in the shuffle...
Check out this joint that he had on the album (Rough Enough)......Damn, I forgot about this......Angry rhymes, a bugged out ragga voice loop, and that special 93 pressure....
"Rough Enough" - Produced by Freddie Foxx.........
Another cut that I slept on from the compilation is "On The Bone Again" by the mysterious Brooklyn Assault Team.......The song is full of raunchy sex rhymes aimed at the skeezers......Even though some people will be offended, I can't help but laugh when I hear so much profanity....HAHAHA.....
"On The Bone Again" - Produced by Eric Black.....

" Drasar Monumental Wrecks The Remix "
This is a remix that I did back in in July of 2010.......I posted it up before, but every dangerous remix deserves more action in my opinion......Here is the original post...
While most people were sleeping last night, I was up in the lab tapping out some next shit...WHEW.....I really hate to pat myself on the back, but I feel like I am in some type of crazy zone with the beats right now...
For this weeks remix I flipped the vocals from Roc Marciano's first group the U.N. (Nothing Lesser).....The original beat by Pete Rock is a god damn monster....Heavy layers of bass, odd noises coming from every direction, and of course crispy, well-cropped drums.....
So for my remix I wanted to try something different (As usual).....Instead of going the chaotic, hardcore route, I opted for more of a laid back, crime boss feel.....Don't get it twisted: you won't hear any cornball synths, or any of that other shit....Just raw, stripped down chops....
This is definitely in the top 20 of the best beats that I have ever made......BLAM.
* If you heard the original sample source- you would truly bug out because I sliced it up so crazily......LISTEN CLOSELY..

" More Mixtape Firepower "
Before I even get started I want to send a big shout out to everyone that stops by the BATTLEFIELD on a daily basis......I see you..It's been a wild three years and I feel as if I am just beginning with this whole blog steez.....
I have never really politicked or advertised the blog, so the traffic that I get is due to me putting out certain frequencies....
The only reason why I started Hip Hop Battlefield in the first place is because I was fascinated by Stretch Armstrong's "Konstant Kontakt" blog that used to pop off crazy....He was putting up old Stretch & Bobbitto shows, demos, and under the radar scorchers at an alarming rate....
So I decided to get busy on the blog tip with my own Hip Hop sensibilities and point of view..
Hip Hop Battlefield's only purpose is to provide fresh Hip Hop: past, present and future......I don't have any hidden agendas...I'm not trying to become a internet superstar or any of that other wierdo shit....I'm not looking for advertisers or payola..
I'm just a dedicated lifelong Hip Hop student that still believes in this shit.......
Anyway, know one cares so I'm just going to deliver the goods....HAHAHAHA.....

" Showbiz & K.R.S. One - The Truth "
" Marq Spekt Spazzes Out "
I can remember a time when the majority of Hip Hop dudes subscribed to the "honesty is the best policy" rule.......If your shit was wack they would tell you to your face you were wack, matter of fact they would even attempt to battle you to show and prove why you were wack....
Nowadays everything is so P.C. and everyone is trying to be chummy without hurting peoples feelings......SAD......We need to speak the truth in order for people to push the envelope and stay sharp with this Hip Hop shit......
Back in the day if you danced around in a KFC commercial, we labeled you a sell-out and you were banished........If you were yelling all that hardcore shit and next thing you know you are singing love songs with a silk shirt on, we turned our back on you......Now if you try to critique somebody, dudes are quick to pull the "Don't knock the hustle" card.......
Fuck your hustle, bring your skills to the table......
On this 12 minute rant, Marq Spekt yells all the things most dudes are scared to death to say in public.......I agree with 90 % of what he is saying....Marq if you are reading this- I highly suggest you do one of these every week...
Take a listen....

" Hip Hop Battlefield Goes To Hawaii, Part 2 "
Ahhhhhh I'm back in Vietnam, California after a nice little vacation on the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii......To be honest with you, I wasn't ready to come back...I wanted to spend more time absorbing the sun rays, cracking jokes on the beach, eating exotic fruits, and all that other hang- loose type shit......
No, I didn't check out any luau's........Sure I could of paid the 80 dollars to take part in one, but that's what cornball tourist do fam.....If I am not a invited guest, I have no business attending one (FEEL ME)....
No, I do not surf, boogie-board, or even know how to fucking swim, but R.I.P. to the Kauai surfing champion "A.I." who recently passed away......You couldn't go anywhere on the island without spotting a rest in peace tribute to him (Google for more info)....
I'm not quite sure what it's like on the other islands in Hawaii, but on Kauai it was somewhat difficult to find traditional Hawaiian food....I didn't fly five and a half hours across the Pacific ocean to munch on a roasted turkey sandwich.....HAHA......Eventually I stumbled onto some ill traditional Hawaiian food, but only because I was crazy determined......
On the radio out there they played a form of reggae called "Jawaiian", which consist of a cheesy, lovers rock steez.....At first I dismissed it as corny, but I warmed up to it after awhile....Atleast they didn't front with the fake patois, instead they paid homage to the jamaican culture while singing about their own Hawaiian related issues (I cant front on that)....
Here are a couple pics.....
Now that I got that out of the way, let me get to the goods.....
Here is a clip of graff monster Doze Green TC5 doing what he does best (Going hard in the paint)......SAY WORD....
