" Canadian Funk Mode "
When you get a chance, make sure you check out this explosive dose of Canadian funk from the now defunct "Paragon" label...Heavy duty grooves...Neck snapping open drums, funky breakdowns, and all that other wild shit..
"Frank Motley's groups and King Herbert & The Knights were part of a funk and r&b scene that sprung up in Toronto throughout the 1960s and early '70s. Producer Jack Boswell recorded the groups live with no overdubs on a four-track (and usually in one or two takes in order to save money) at Spectra Sound Studios, located in engineer Bill Bessey's basement. The Knights consisted of King Herbert on tenor sax, Roland Simmonds on lead guitar, David Jones on organ, George Philips on bass, Jimmy Butler on drums and vocalist Jack Harden".
