" Drasar Monumental Remix Rampage "
Defenders Of The Faith (Checkmate & Concise) are a duo from Vancouver, British Columbia that deserve more recognition for their brand of heat....Back in 2000 they put out Bait & Switch b/w These Days & Times on their own "Double Up" record label....
These Days & Times was the winner for me......Production by Mr. Attic (Grassroots) with extra swift scratches by Lil Jaz (Remember him ?).......Over the years they have put out many singles, mixtapes, and an album or two.....I'm surprised more cats in the States aren't aware of them, because when I headed up to Vancouver a year ago, they were a household name......(Yeah the above pic is me in Vancity channeling the spirits-HAHA)
Anyway, I decided to give them the remix face-lift, and add my own grime to the mix.........Things got so out of hand that the motherfuckin electricity went out (Seriously).....
Once the powered was restored, I had to start from scratch and try to put the production puzzle back together.........MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.......
So strap on your parachute, lace up those combat boots, tighten up your war goggles- I'M GOING IN !!!
* If you have wack computer speakers you are not going to hear the low end science properly......
Take a listen- "These Days & Times"- Drasar Monumental Remix...
And just to keep it 100- Here is a video from the Defenders, "Make Money-2009".......VANCITY STAND UP..
" Canadian Funk Mode "
When you get a chance, make sure you check out this explosive dose of Canadian funk from the now defunct "Paragon" label...Heavy duty grooves...Neck snapping open drums, funky breakdowns, and all that other wild shit..
"Frank Motley's groups and King Herbert & The Knights were part of a funk and r&b scene that sprung up in Toronto throughout the 1960s and early '70s. Producer Jack Boswell recorded the groups live with no overdubs on a four-track (and usually in one or two takes in order to save money) at Spectra Sound Studios, located in engineer Bill Bessey's basement. The Knights consisted of King Herbert on tenor sax, Roland Simmonds on lead guitar, David Jones on organ, George Philips on bass, Jimmy Butler on drums and vocalist Jack Harden".

" R.I.P. Teena Marie "
One day after Christmas, legendary singer Teena Marie passed away at her home in Pasadena, California.......She was only fifty four years old...
This is truly sad news for me, because her music was on constant rotation in my household growing up.....Not only did she sing, but she played several instruments and wrote most of her own material as well........
R.I.P. Teena Marie- you will not be forgotten.....

" Hiero Mixtape Mayhem "
For almost twenty years the Hiero crew have stayed together as a unit......I have to give them props for that alone...
E.P.M.D., Eric B & Rakim, ATCQ, and other Hip Hop heavyweights couldn't manage to stay together for that long of a period.....Be on the lookout for more Hiero material in 2011, until then scoop up this mix by Digumsmak.......

" M.F. Grimm: Story E.P. Download "
MF Grimm (Percey Carey) has to be one of the hardest working dudes in the world of Hip Hop...He has released double albums, started his own label (Day By Day), put out books, and it doesn't appear as if he will be slowing down anytime soon....
Check out this new free E.P. he dropped a couple weeks back.........

" Beat Tape Shit "
My homeboy from Alameda, "E.C." just dropped an instrumental project on the Dot label.......A nice collection of production chops, soul drenched sequences, and all that other stuff...
Instead of letting beats run for too long- he keeps everything moving along nicely for all of you A.D.D. brothers out there...
Give it a listen....
Also, congrats E.C. on your first seed...." Poppa Don't Take No Mess 2011 "

" Hip Hop Battlefield Rants "
1.......While flipping through channels last night, I caught the first thirty minutes of VH1's "Dirty South" tribute show......I already know what your thinking..."Why and the hell is Drasar Monumental watching such garbage" ?......It's because I am a Hip Hop fanatic, and Ghetto Boys, 2 Live Crew, Lawaun Love, Shy D, Magic Mike, Gucci Crew, M.C. A.D.E. and plenty others made a huge impact on me growing up.....
Plus Scott Hobbs (Brother Of Dave Hobbs From The Ghetto Style D.J.'s) was my football coach back in the day.....He put me up on plenty breaks, and also played early demos of 2 Live Crew shit when they were straight B-Boy......Anyway, the parts that I did see of the show completely sucked (Are you surprised ?)
Luke came out yelling "Doo Doo Brown" while half-naked skeezers flopped around in a embarrassing manner......I'm all for girls bouncing around and all that, but the performance left a real sour taste in my mouth.......Your boy Drake came out (Why and the hell is he performing, he isn't from the south) and really stunk up the place.....While he was rhyming, he was looking at his feet the entire time......SAD.........VH1 please step your shit up!!!!
2....Bahumbug.....Bahumbug..........Around this time of year people spend all types of money that they don't have....Be careful while your out there trying to stunt, you don't want to start 2011 on skid row.....HAHAHA...........
3....Hip Hop Battlefield is getting "Bigger & Deffer".......I don't plan on switching up like a lot of these other corny blogs....It's real simple fam, if I like it, I post it....If I'm not feeling it I don't fuck with it...
You can send me a million e-mails and try to put the squeeze on me all you want, if I don't like your material don't take it personal- I just can't rock with it......BLAM....
4...PLEASE stop dickriding just because a couple blogs suck off these goofy dudes.....Some say the fifth element of Hip Hop is knowledge......I am officially making ORIGINALITY the sixth element.....What's the point of posting up the same exact shit that the next man posted up ?.......
God bless the child that has his own.......(YA HEARD).....
5....The gods have a saying that is one of the most important proverbs in life....."Word Is Bond"..........Real simple, real effective, and really hard for a lot of cats to stay true to......
Like my man Selfish said, "People doubt what you say, but believe what you do".......Quit making empty promises in 2011.....If I had a dollar for every promise one of these Hip Hop dudes made to me over the years- I would be on some Black Trump shit by now.........If you say you are going to do something, try your hardest to manifest those words (Myself included)...
Dead all the empty promises, SHOW AND PROVE......
6...Fuck Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and all that other shit.........
If you worship one of these experimental so-called social networking sites- more power to you champ....But I have seen so many people in 2010 get caught up dealing with these sites.....
If we weren't friends back in the day, why are you trying to contact me now and tell me about how you are living the dream?...
PLEASE......Save your energy and tell someone who cares, because I truly don't.......Turn off your computer every once in awhile and hit the boulevard to see what's really happening around you......
You might have a million FOLLOWERS on Twitter, but guess what---if shit gets real hectic for you in real life, less than a handful of these motherfuckers are going to actually help you out.......TRUST ME....
7...No New Year's Resolutions...........
Try to better yourself everyday.....If you smoke crack-stop smoking that bullshit today.......If you are a wack herb- study on this Hip Hop shit today and get your mind right......If you are a sucker D.J.- go back to square one and dig in the crates....
You get the picture........Find your inner power today, don't wait until the end of the year because you might not even make it that far.....Life is short....
8....That's it for now folks.......This is the end of my little rambling session.......I feel a lot better, maybe I should try this more often....HHAAAAAHAHA..........Peace to everyone that checks in on the regular....

" Joint Of The Day "
I could never figure out why people slept on "Styles Of Beyond" ?
They had dope beats, aggressive battle raps, and that extra spice that separated them from a bunch of non-descriptive groups that came out at that time ....
Ryu, Tak, Cheapshot, and Vin Skully put out two albums (2000 Fold & Megadef), and a solid mixtape "Razor Tag" in 2007....I'm not quite sure if they are still recording, but I do know Ryu is involved with a new group called the "Get Busy Committee".....
Check out this new heat with Ryu on the mic & Apathy on the boards (I Did It To Myself)........This sample sounds mad familiar, but I can't call it right now........
" 206 Funk Mode "
The long awaited finished version of the documentary, "Wheedle's Groove" is getting the recognition it deserves....
"The best documentary of 2010, Wheedle’s Groove is a moving cinematic testament to the pure power of music and not only a tribute to the Seattle soul music scene, but to a time in our nation’s not-too-far-off past when it felt for a beautiful minute like America had soul.” – Michael Simmons, Huffington Post
“Wheedle’s Groove resists becoming a sentimental pastiche of bittersweet Old School reminisces by deftly illustrating how music shapes community, breaks barriers and forges new paths.” – John Hubbel, Indie Memphis Film Festival
“The filmmakers have approached the subject and its players with a sense of appreciation and compassion that is evident throughout the film. It is a must-see for any fan of soul, funk, and R&B music.” – Tim Sampson, Communications Director, Stax Museum of American Soul Music.
Here is a little trailer action to help you get your mind right.......
R.I.P to my man "Talk-Sick" from Seattle....We miss you fam...
" Infamous Minded Mixtape "
I don't know where you live, but here in Vietnam, California the weather is severely dreary on this first day of winter......Don't get me wrong-it's nothing like Chicago or Philly, but it's surprisingly frigid outside.....
Cold enough to make me want to avoid all the Christmas madness popping off, and just chill in the crib and listen to this new Infamous Minded mixtape by Rated R, Woogie (I'm sorry but that's a wack name), and Larry Lo....
Exclusives, slept on cuts, and all that other wild shit.........FREE- P....

" KRS-One & Showbiz "
The Blastmaster and Showbiz are going to drop an album....SAY WORD......."Show Power" is the first single and I have to be honest, this is not as explosive as I expected it to be....
It's not bad, KRS drops gems as usual....But I am looking forward to hearing what else they have cooked up for the 2011 season.
Keep your eyes peeled for the "Godsville" project dropping sometime soon I hope.....
" New Shit On Deck "
Planet Asia Medallions and Madlib link up once again for an enjoyable listen...."Boiler Makers" is the first leak from the Crack Belt Theatre mixtape that is set to drop before the year is over.....BLAM.
Every time these two collaborate- ill shit pops off.....Remember "Definition Of Ill" ?......And the verses he splashed on the Stoney Jackson album sounded fresh as well.......
I have a feeling we will get an album from these two in the future.....
" Hip Hop Morale "
Earlier today I copped a flicks book by UK graff monster, "Smash 137 " GTK (On The Run Press)........Wow, instead of relying on his name or past accomplishments, Smash still puts in heavy work and travels the globe on a mission to wreck....
So instead of giving your peeps an average, run of the mill Christmas gift.....I suggest that you snatch up this book and spread the word...You can thank me later....
Peace to all my UK fam......Daily Diggers, Phillie, Kool Skool, etc.

" Drasar Monumental Remix Action "
* Piece rocked by my dude, KUFU ONERZ/ TNS/ NS/ GFC.....
Since I am sitting on dozens of Mobb Deep remixes that I have done over the years, I decided to put together a little project...."Remix Weaponry" will be dropping in January of 2011 and it's going to be on some Hip Hop shock treatment, pure rawness, John Rambo shit........
My man Tomas is going to rock the cover art, Mad Planet will be on the blends, and all production will be wrecked by Mr. Hip Hop Battlefield....HAHAHA....
Here is a little teaser, but keep in mind the finished version will sound NOTHING like this at all..........
CHECK IN......
" Laced With Gems "
The Fat Lace Magazine crew come correct with over two hours of obscure gems on their latest broadcast.....On a recent road trip I gave this session a chance, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear a healthy amount of scorchers that I haven't heard before...
They even played the heavily slept on, "True Bad Boys" by The Men Of Respect-which I haven't heard in in quite some time......

" Top Ranking Don "
This is a live recording of Cutty Ranks killing shit a couple weeks ago on his west coast invasion tour.....Straight from the boards, no static, no feedback, no nonsense.....I even had a chance to chop it up with the don after the show and crack a couple jokes....
Cutty doesn't come to the States that often, so this was a monumental evening to say the least....
Pay attention, you might just learn something about live mic wrecking......BOOOOYAAAAKAAAAA SHOT !!!!!!!

" Back To The Future: Constant Deviants Interview "
When I first started this blog my plan was to conduct an interview every week.......So I went on a mission and ended up rocking interviews with "Uncut Raw" M.C. Selfish, international Zulu Nation spokesperson Kamonzi, King Shameek, and Philly crate digger Phil Most Chill.....
I fell back on the interviews somewhat, but I still haven't lost sight of my original plan....So expect to see more interviews and things of that nature in 2011.....
Yesterday I linked up with D.J. Cutt & M.I. of "Constant Deviants" fame.... Instead of asking them a bunch of cornball questions and wasting their time, I decided to just be myself and approach the interview in more of a Hip Hop discussion type of steez...
They both opened up about their history, plans, and what they have in store for their label, " SIX TWO SIX SHIFT ", and a gang of other topics that will hold your attention......So go grab some popcorn, cock your chair back a little bit, and brace yourself for over an hour of "Constant Deviants" goodness.....
Big shout out to my Baltimore comrade, "Set Rule" for keeping it official........And if you haven't copped that Concrete Utopia album- do yourself a favor and scoop that up with a quickness....
And while your getting your mind right- peep my favorite cuts from the Concrete Utopia album....LISTEN UP.....

" New Raekwon Heater- Butter Knives "
" 88 Mindstate "
Back in 1988 I was a twelve year old kid obsessed with Hip Hop.........
I already had my own pair of turntables and a crummy radio shack Realistic mixer that I would abuse on the regular.....The needles would skip around crazy, so I would put a nickel on top of the needles to try to prevent them from jumping around while I tried to copy the latest Joe Cooley scratch....
It seemed like everything popped off crazy in 1988......N.W.A., T-La Rock, Mantronix was still crushing shit, Fat Boys were still trying to hang on, Super Lover Cee & Casanova Rud, G Rap, Steady B, Stetsasonic, and many others made 1988 a year that is forever embedded in my Hip Hop rolodex....
Twenty two years later I am still obsessed with Hip Hop, while many of my comrades from those days completely fell the fuck off....SAD......Anyway those cats from Global Funk Radio (UK) rocked a radio show featuring all 88 cuts...Over an hour of crazy drum programming, yelling on the mic, abrasive scratches, and all that other 88 shit.......
Do yourself a favor and hop into this classic Hip Hop time machine homeboy........
