Last week I laced you with a Paten Locke track, now I'm going to splash ya'll with another joint from the Asamov alumni : Willie Evans Jr has a new album on deck, Communication will be dropping on High Water Music sometime in the near future....
Here is the first leak (Communication) featuring Mr.Lif......
AWWWWW YEAHHH, just in time for the weekend....Diggz & DJ Lust raid the Mobb Deep vaults for another dose of that QB artillery on Murder Muzik, Part 2....
Exclusives, B-sides, and all that good shit.......CHECK IN....
* I originally posted this back in 2008, but I had to bring it back because it deserves more burn...Big up to all the HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD regulars......
DONT SLEEP....
In 1996 Camden New Jersey's, Krown Rulers dropped a second album,"Death Before Dishonor". Why they waited almost 10 years after "Paper Chase" to release another album is a mystery to me... Regardless, the sophmore jinx scenario didn't apply to "KR" because Death Before Dishonor rocked some heavy joints...
"Memories Of The Ruthless", features Grand Pubah ( Now known as G-Law ) narrating tales of turf wars, shootouts, and revenge killings..You can tell by the way he spits his rhymes that he wasn't too far from the mix of action....This is straight up raw Hip Hop with no apologies...
" Some Street Shit " is just some all out, assault battle rap shit...It's the kind of song you play before slapping someone upside the head..Check it out...
Even though " Paper Chase " is my favorite of the two records, DBD packs more of a new age STICK UP KID punch....BLAM..BLAM
I have been digging this cut from Rasheed Chappell, "What I'm Hear 4" for a minute now.....It doesn't hurt when your joint is produced by the motherfuckin legend Kenny Dope...
If this beat sounds familiar to you- Kutmaster Kurt rocked the same sample source on Masters Of Illusion's "Time To Get Right".....Both producers did an exceptional job so I'm not complaining..
Oh yeah, the sun is finally out and a brother feels like he is ready to take on the remainder of 2011.......A lot of talk popping off about Osama and all that bullshit.....Yo, unless I see a body it's all fiction in my eyes....
Some people are actually out there celebrating.....WOW.....What are you celebrating ? More death, more killing.......Matter of fact, who is Osama Bin Laden ? Do you really know about this man, or are you willing to believe the hype....
I'm going to keep it non-fiction on the BATTLEFIELD....We deal with reality over here, I refuse to fall into the sheep mentality because Hip Hop has taught me better....
Anyway, if your in the mood for some explosive grooves- you know the motherfuckin drill cousin.....
While scoping out WILL C'S excellent blog, I stumbled on this project by a cat named Manipulator (Live From The Badlands 3)......Impressive stuff popping off : Nasty breaks, scratch sentences, and a couple other surprising turns and twist...
Mr. Damu The Fudgemunk is on remix duties for Kev Brown & Kaimbr on this cut ,"Army Fatigue Rap" off of the Alexander Green Project.......
Loud cracking drums, Al Green chops, scratch sentences, equals a decent listening experience (I have to admit that it sounds a little too smooth to be called Army Fatigue Rap though).......
One of the original Hip Hop gangsters Schooly D deserves more props for his brand of rugged, dusted, completely bugged the fuck out brand of music......His first four albums (Schooly D, Saturday Night, Smoke Some Kill, Am I Black Enough For You) are all certified classics that pushed the boundaries of the art form....
One of things that appealed to me about Schooly's sound was his unorthodox approach to recording.....It seemed as if he just hit the record button and blacked out on the tracks......Instead of over thinking the funk, he just let it flow naturally and unrestrained unlike many of the dudes I hear these days...
In 2011 he is still recording and touring....You can scope out his web site HERE......
And while your at it, peep this comprehensive compilation of strictly Schooly D goodness by B.A.B.....

Since the name of this blog is Hip Hop Battlefield- it's only right that I slap you with that head banger boogie shit...Back in 1993 Homicide dropped an EP (Strictly Hood) that had a few blazers on it....
"Stashouse" has managed to age very well.....Death threats, unpredictable break manipulation, heavy amounts of bass, and that special lo-fi ugliness that is bound to catch your attention.....DONT SLEEP...
I originally posted this last Summer, but for some strange reason the motherfuckin link got broken........Thank goodness the folks over at Daily Diggers (What up D) discovered a new link for the Rare Dave- Rare Frequencies joint....
Recently a Hip Hop Battlefield regular has been asking for it, so here you go brother...ROCK ON....
Here is a little treat for the HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD posse......
Earlier today I hit the record button while I was getting my daily turntable abuse in.....Blends, doubles, slam dance rap, and even a couple of my own exclusive remixes get thrown into the rotation holmes....If you want to give your evening a power boost- you know the motherfuckin drill.....
I want to send a shout out to all the cats that check in on the regular (I SEE YOU)............Also, be on the lookout for "Strictly Weapons" featuring Mr. Battlefield on production duties in the very near future....
* No playlist this time around, but trust me that the selections are very dangerous....BLAM,BLAMZ..
This mix by D.J. Shame (Vinyl Reanimators) will put you in the right frame of mind if your searching for some flavor packets to add to your Friday...
Over an hour of heavy breaks, doubles, and all that good stuff.....R.I.P. Frosty Freeze ....December 4, 1963-April 3 2008 "Original Style Never Dies"....
Friday Firepower is back for all you weekend warriors out there....
The Pianos Companion (Ray West & A.G.) has a couple steamers on it....Turn the volume up a notch, cock your chair back a bit, and let the beats rock...
Tone Liv (Green Llamas) has to be one of the hardest working motherfuckers in Hip Hop....
This Ambush, New Jersey native must live in the studio or something because he has released "Beer For Breakfast", "Birth Of Doggie Jones", "Superhero Sandwiches","Only Built For Timerland Boots", "The New Pollution", and "The Campaign" along with several other guest appearances in a relatively short period of time (Take note all you lazy rap dudes).....
Peep this blazer "Sgt. Slaughter"......Give it a listen, this shit will make you want to put someone in a camel clutch.....AHHHHHHHH...
I'm going to take ya'll all the way to Northern California for a dose of freshness.....
Grand The Visitor was / is a member of the Homeless Derelix crew who have put out some impressive material over the years...They were even signed to Stones Throw for a brief period....
Back in 1996 Grand dropped the"Situation Critical bw Bring It Live" single, and yes the b-side wins again.......CHECK IN..
The Fat Lace Crew from London come correct on their latest podcast April 11 / 2011.....Expect to hear a gang of under the radar gems, a hilarious sense of humor, and explosive selections (Courageous Chief, All The Way Live, Brothers Supreme, Rock Hard Delegation, P19, etc)...
Out of all the cats that made their initial splash with Rawkus Records, I always felt that "Scaramanga" was the illest...His wordplay, patterns, and overall approach made him stand out from the rest of the pack..
On the criminally slept-on "Snake Eyes" album he lets off crazy aggressive bars like...... " I'm above all the young games / but I'm experienced behind the gun aim "....OUCH !!!!
Before going to the office today, I decided to get my weekly digging in.....Here in Vietnam, California there are plenty spots that are holding the goods.......Second hand stores, Salvation Army spots, garage sales, and of course the almighty mom and pop joints that have managed to stay open somehow...
I have never been the type of cat that spends a ridiculous amount of papes on vinyl...Instead, I go the extra mile to find that heat for cheap (Same goes for kicks)........You would be real surprised at how many burners are right under motherfuckers noses at bargain bin prices....
This wild and crazy punk rock cat I know named Bandon (Yeah, Bandon not Brandon HAHA) has run "The Works" record store for over a decade (And they have a nice wall of paint on the premises)......
He has blessed me with an insane amount of drum breaks, creepy organs, and very entertaining O.S.T's over the years.....
Plus we both share a deep appreciation for hardcore music...
WOW......The very influential Swedish punk rock outfit, "Discharge"...These dudes were so influential they practically invented their own brand of hardcore entitled, "D-Beat"..............After they came out and stirred things up, many bands included "Dis" in their name as a way to pay homage to the originators (Disclose, Disarm, Disgust, Discard, Dispense, etc)
"Drunk With Power"....Pinnacle Records 1982-1983.
Next up to bat we have the heavily slept-on Paten Locke.....I remember first catching wind of his music when he worked with the group Asamov...Now he is affiliated with Tres Records and he continues to churn out creative Hip Hop.....
On this cut right here, "Funky Hit Record" he lets it all hang out with an avalanche of style, wit, and charisma (No Homo)......I also have to add that he produced this himself....WIN...
"Funky Hit Record" 2009 Tres Records.....
If your looking for drama to sprinkle on your beats, look no further than a soundtrack record......Texture, suspense, mystery and all that other shit can be found on a fly O.S.T.
For instance the soundtrack to L.A. Woman 2 is ripe for chopping...The orchestra was conducted by Sven Gyldmark and I suggest you give this a thorough listen if you know what's best for you....
"Lonesome & Scared" 1969
And last but not least is the O.S.T. to the French movie, "Umbrellas Of Cherbourg" by the legend Michel Legrand........I can't even understand what the fuck they are saying, but the music has a beautiful movement to it that puts me in a hopeful mood....Plus when a woman sings in French- they get my undivided attention (YA FEEL ME)....
Perfect for a trip down memory lane or a late night stroll through the city...
"The Gas Station" 1964
And I didn't cop this particular record, but the ill cover had me open.....
Rob Swift continues to add to his legacy with the release of, "Sketches Of The Architect" 2011.....It's a free E.P. that will definitely perk your ears up when you hear it....
While most cats were snacking on ham and looking for Easter eggs, the crew and I decided pull out the paint and get busy......I'm not really into holidays like that.....Most of you don't even have a clue what your celebrating anyway...BLAM..
Remember Kam's incredible track "Holiday Madness" ?......If not, go back and give that shit a thorough listen trooper....
Let me get back on track.....
Brother Kufu, Fooderz, P (FUNKWHATYAHEARD), and myself did the right thing and kept the flames burning..I decided to rock a piece using my son's name "JAHMEL" on some Beat Street shit....Props to Kufu for keeping me right and exact....
8 Month old Jahmel Rockwell..AKA.. The people's champ..AKA..Lion Youth..AKA..B -Boy prodigy..AKA...Mr. No responsibilities.
This piece by "P" is ridiculous......
Oh yeah, Fooders is far from a slouch.....
And you know Kufu is going to bring that nasty Philly / Oakland funk to the table....
Props to the entire GFC crew for wrecking everything, The Back Em Down Boys for keeping it extra explosive, Vietnam, California, Fooderz, Kufu, Planet, State, Mad Miguel, Waves, and those two weirdos who almost caught a bad one....
My Chi-Town homeboy "Selfish" is a monster when it comes to this Hip Hop shit......His rhymes are light years ahead of most dudes, but he can get it in on the sampler as well (Reminds me of myself-HAHA).....If you haven't heard his 2008 Uncut Raw album with slept-on producer, "Fluent"- I highly suggest that you do so....QUICK....
Take a listen to this 2011 production entitled "Crack Pipe Dreams".......Nah dude doesn't smoke crack- but this beat will bug you the fuck out....
