" Soul Power Monday "

Thes One from PUTS launches an hour of soul power tunes that are sure to make you snap your fingers, nod your head, and all that other fly shit......

Tune in....

"Mustache Soul delves deep into the bizarre world of outsider drum machine soul from the late 70′s and early 1980′s. A mix by Thes One, all songs were taken from original vinyl pressings and the mix is an even hour of full curl power. And no, he can’t tell you what track number x is. The secret of the mustache is remaining tight lipped".

" Yaggfu Front Newness "

Before Little Brother made their splash, there was a group called "Yaggfu Front" that put North Carolina on the Hip Hop map....

Jingle Bell, Deranged and Damage put out an amazing full length on Mercury Records (Action Packed Adventure) that was full of "left field" concepts, imagination, and fresh, heavily layered production......I can still remember how excited I was when I first heard it...

Now in 2011 the crew keeps pushing forward....For instance, they just released some newness on Sound Cloud....

Take a listen JACK !!!!!

" Hiero In The Mix 2011 "

Peep this mix by Emynd that rocks all Hiero cuts.....

""The other day, I was on a quick road trip listening to Extra Prolific’s now classic “Like It Should Be” and it dawned on me that I needed to put together a collection of my favorite Hiero songs. And… so I did. 27 of my favorite Hiero joints, all of which come before the year 2000. This isn’t because Hiero stopped putting out good music after 2000. Frankly, I have no idea if they did or didn’t because I haven’t been paying attention… but these joints all bang and this mix is a fun trip down memory lane with a lot of great rap that has aged extremely well. I’d like to think this is a good introduction to the Hieroglyphics crew for those who aren’t familiar with their work, but also a fun listen to those of us who grew up listening to them. Anyway, I hope y’all enjoy it!"

" Legion Of Doom Wreckage "

If you listened closely to the S-Rock "Hard To Find" mix that I posted up last week, you would have noticed an extremely dangerous cut by the Philly roughneck outfit, Legion Of Doom....

Group members Live & Charlie Bass put out a handful of singles and the much sought after album, Too Hard For The Radio in 1993 (If anyone out there has a copy of that album-please send me a link soon as possible)...

Anyway, LOD flipped that hardcore shit with no apologies, for instance on the menacing "Putting My Thing Down" lead M.C. Live yells, "Don't think because your a bitch you can't die next / these shotgun shells say unisex, One size fits all "........

Or the equally abrasive, " Get down or get laid down / and keep your motherfuckin mouth shut bitch cause I'm putting my thing down "

OUCH !!!!

" More Brazilian Steam "

Something about the music in Brazil/Brasil puts me in a uplifting mood (Especially if the song features a woman on the vocals)....

Hopefully one day I will be able to venture out to Rio De Jinero, until then I will settle for the mesmerizing sounds of this project by Antal.....

"Today we're introducing you to some friends of ours from Amsterdam, Netherlands. Antal runs the Rush Hour label, record store and distributor. With KC the Funkaholic, he's also running the Kindred Spirits label, which released many essential albums lately, from Jungle By Night, Woima Collective, Build An Ark or Carlos Nino for example... Antal went to Sao Paolo for a Dutch/Brasil cultural exchange program at the Bienal 2010. While there, he spent most of his days in record stores, here are some of the tunes he found. Unfortunately no tracklist"...

" 4 All My Wu- Headz, Part 9 "

At one point in time it seemed as if RZA could do no wrong....

Up until the release of Bobby Digital he set a new standard when it came to grimy beats....Somewhere along the way his production style changed and he started to incorporate more live instruments into the mix (Which altered his style for the worse in my opinion)...

Regardless I will always value his contributions to the art form...

SALUTE....

Peep this mixtape by J-Love that freaks all RZA joints....

" 1975 Live "

Whenever I need some extra dramatics to sprinkle on my beats I usually head in the OST department.....They are loaded with moody textures, and cinematic arrangements that are perfect for sampling....

" Priority One Shots "

Even though I enjoy a lot of the music I hear in the new millennium, my favorite era for Hip Hop ranges between 1986-1989, it's the time period that I refer to as the "Hardrock B-Boy Era"....

With the emergence of new technologies producers tried their hardest to push the envelope when it came to creative sampling, M.C.'s sounded hungrier than ever, and D.J.'s were on a mission to get recognition...

Ron Delite, Louie Louie (Who started out with T-La Rock and went on to work with 45 King, Queen Latifah, etc), and DJ Smitty B put out a monster album during this frame of time entitled, "Total Chaos" on Tuff City Records in 1989.....

It's a motherfuckin shame that this record doesn't get the attention that it deserves....Take a listen to these choice cuts and get your mind right duke !!!!!

" Beat Biterz "

O.P.P. does not stand for "other peoples privates".....O.P.P. stands for other peoples productions.....HA !

The story of Kay Gee biting Tony D's "Adam's Nightmare" for O.P.P. is an old story for some ,but for many others this is brand new information....

Guru once said "Rap is an art you don't own no loops"....

I can understand that sentiment (Somewhat), it's another thing all together when you straight up rob someone's idea though.....Not only that, both producers hail from New Jersey which makes the thievery even more foul....

Take a listen and ask yourself ,"what part of the game is this" ?

RIP Tony D 1967- 2009...

" Comedy Relief 5 "

The Bronx bomber Tim Dog is currently dealing with some type of legal issues, but I do not truly know the "in's & outs" of the case so I'm not going to even go into that shit (I'm not a motherfuckin T.V. reporter)...

Regardless, Tim Dog's first album "Penicillin On Wax" has managed to age very well in my opinion....Ced G & T.R. Love supplied him with heavily layered, dense, sample based collages that still pack a punch today...

In a recent article for Ego Trip "J-Zone" breaks down some of Tim's illest one liners........Funny indeed..

If your in the mood for a hearty laugh, check in duke.....

" Diamond D Rocks The Breaks "

Unlike many blogs out there, I usually take the time to listen to a project before I put it up.......I'm not one of those extra thirsty dudes that takes pride in the "quantity" of post they can pull off - I'm more into the "quality" factor when it comes to HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD....

I will make an exception for Diamond though of course.....I haven't had a chance to listen to this two hour session of "D" slicing up breaks in Russia yet, but I'm quite sure it's going to be an enjoyable listening experience.....

" Sample Source Shit "

Like I have said before in the past, most sample source joints these days don't really hold my attention.....

The Conmen, Phil Most Chill, Kon & Amir, Daddy Long Legs, and many others set the bar pretty high with those types of mixes - so in order for you to pull it off in 2011 you better dig a little deeper in your crates homeboy....

Fake Blood manages to make my ears perk up with his superb "Used" series of sample source material....I posted up one, two, three, and now your going to get hit with number four....

" Slang Anarchy "

When it comes to that official wordplay, my crew has the crown for supplying countless motherfuckers with bars...

SERIOUSLY...

Instead of rocking tired cliches and boring adjectives - we are constantly updating our slang to help keep our Hip Hop morale up...Sure you have heard these words before, but the way we flip it gives them a whole new context with multiple meanings....

I'm not talking about corny comparisons like calling weed "broccoli", or reciting wack phrases like, "Ya Smell Me".....

Nah, were on a whole different level with our 2011 B-Boy, slanguage jack !!!!!!

PEEP...

1.."DIZZY"...

We used to say dizzy so much that motherfuckers thought we were crazy.....At one point everything we said had dizzy in front of it, "Dizzy DJ's", "Dizzy-Homo", "Dizzy brothers", "Dizzy chickens", or just plain "DIZZY" by itself.....

* Proper Usage

" Yo man, I can't believe you are playing some Odd Future in your car, you must be one of those DIZZY motherfuckers "......

2.."NAKED"

HAHAHA......Naked meaning no flavor, no soul power, no pizzazz.......Or lack of money, etc

*Proper Usage.

" I'm NAKED out here on these streets, and my bitch ass landlord just gave me an eviction notice "...

3.."NO ONE CARES"

Before JS-1 came out with his album with the same name, we turned the phrase, "No One Cares" into a monster......For some reason most cats didn't like hearing this one....

*Proper Usage.

" I thought you were going to pick me up before you went to the disco, NO ONE CARES "...Or, " Your always yelling about how wack Hip Hop is now, but do you support the legends when they perform in your city, NO ONE CARES "....

4..AP, BP, MP, WP....

We don't say white dude, or asian man, or mexican cats........We just say AP, WP, or BP's.....What the fuck does that mean ?

Black powers, Mexican powers, Asian powers, etc........It's not used in a derogatory way, it's used to identify when someone is giving someone from the same race better treatment......HAHA......Or it could get flipped many ways depending on the circumstance...

*Proper Usage.

" I noticed that you got some extra hot sauce packets for your meal, it must have been the BP's ".........."Unfortunately I didn't get the job honey, they saw that I was BP and they threw my resume in the trash can ".....

5..RADICAL.

Not surfer dude radical, this form of radical is just another way of saying extreme, ultimate disrespect, wild, crazy, or completely not giving a fuck.....

*Proper Usage.

" That girl had a RADICAL booty "............." Your a soft ass punk, don't try to get RADICAL with me you god damn herb "..... " Damn, that smoke smells RADICAL "........HAHAHA...

Were the slang dons and don't let anyone try to tell you different.....I could go on for days, but this seems like a good time to end this shit....

Thanks for checking into the battlefield- it's going to be a crazy week so stay tuned..........

" Funky Technician Splash "

Be on the lookout for Lord Finesse material straight from the vaults courtesy of Slice Of Spice Records.......Now we will be able to hear ill DITC smashers that we should of had access to in the 90's....

" Drasar Monumental On Production "

When I make beats I start with a clean slate every time...Instead of loading up a bunch of kits, or using kicks and snares that I have used in the past- I make sure to scour over my records until I find something new that I haven't rocked before....

WHY ?

Because I don't want to get caught relying on certain techniques or sounds when it comes to production.....This approach has helped me develop a non-stop record buying ethic where it's impossible for me to get bored of my collection.....I have been buying records since 1983 and to be quite honest- I'm still on that never ending search for the perfect beat....

Anyway, a couple years back I posted up one of my remixes of "God Bless Ya Life" by the Ill Biscuits....Now is the right time to bring it back for all of those that didn't catch it the first time....

I hate to pat myself on the back- but I believe I really knocked this shit out the park...The chops match the melancholy vibe of the accappela perfectly, the drums bang of course, and the sequences make perfect sense....

So quit stalling jack and download this Drasar Monumental exclusive shot......BAM,BAMZ....

"God Bless Ya Life- Drasar Monumental Remix "

" Milkcrate Jewels 36 "

Milkcrate Jewels is here once again folks....

This is the segment where I dig through my palace of chubby crates and unearth slept-on gems......Were going to go all the way out to Toronto, Canada for a session of goodness this time around...

"Mathematik" was apart of a group called Down To Earth in the 90's.....He eventually went solo and released a couple albums and singles, but for some strange reason many heads in the U.S. are unaware of how ill this dude really is.....

For example peep the bars he spits on "Learn To Earn" from the Beat Factory Rap Essentials Compilation (1996)..

" KA - Cold Facts Illness "

Whenever I hear dudes complaining about how their is no new fly shit out, I just laugh to myself....

Maybe your looking in the wrong places ? Maybe you don't have the time to sift through mad corny shit to find the jewels ? Or perhaps your just lazy and you expect good Hip Hop to just fall in your lap ?

Regardless, fresh joints are constantly dropping......"KA" had a standout verse on Roc Marciano's album (We Do It)......There were even talks of a collaborative album with the deadly duo (Metal Clergy).....

Today I spotted a cut by KA entitled Cold Facts......Wow, this is just straight up ridiculous..

Take the time out to peep his wordplay, patterns, flow, and I promise you that your in for a motherfuckin surprise....Hip Hop Battlefield gives this two thumbs up !!!!!
