" In The Motherland "

Crazy Legs & Abraham Tekya take us on a journey through war-torn Uganda with a B-Boy perspective in the film, "Bouncing Cats"....

I have to give them the utmost props for making moves of this magnitude....SALUTE...

Here is the trailer...

Bouncing Cats Trailer from Bouncing Cats on Vimeo.

" Mr. Thing On The Breaks "

While most of the peers that I grew up with in the 80's have abandon Hip Hop, my love for the art form has only grown and blossomed into a bigger monster...It's crazy to think that some of the dudes that have influenced me so much as a youth- now listen to cornball shit...

The usual argument from them is that " Everything started to sound wack around 1996 ".....I understand this sentiment, there was a wave of complete wackness with the influx of Master P, Diddy, and a couple other unworthy candidates around that time....But their was always fly shit dropping to counter act the nonsense......

And up to this day, I still hear fresh shit on a constant....It might not be on Yo M.T.V. Raps or Rap City but it is still out there......So next time one of those stuck in the 80's or 90's cats try to hit you with that,"Everything sucks now speeches" direct them to Hip Hop Battlefield......

Over here my goal is to bring Hip Hop past, present, and future to the table ........I have learned so much from this art form that I feel that a blog is the least I can do...This blog shit is not work for me, it's actually fun and it's amazing that I have connected with so many people through it nationally as well as abroad.......

Anyways, enough of my rambling let me get to the goods.......Former Scratch Pervert "Mr.Thing" goes all out on this break mix (Champion Nerd) 2010......If you want to start your week off correctly- YOU KNOW THE MOTHERFUCKING DRILL !!!

No games are being played on this project...Heavy drums, rare grooves, and plenty "Oh shit that's where they sampled that from moments".......

" 9th Wonder On The Beats "

Last night I sat down and listened to this 9th Wonder beat excursion put together by "D.J. Cuzzin B"......I was surprised at how many of these beats I have never heard before...Out of all these cuts, I have only heard a couple previously....

9th goes all out on this project with heavy production artillery....Instead of rocking his signature soul chop-type of sound, he does the unexpected and pulls inspiration from a myriad of sources....DON'T SLEEP...

Be on the lookout for Dream Merchant 2 in October..Props to U.S.

" Ed Lover : C'Mon Son 16 "

Ed Lover is back with some more comedy for ya'll...

Lindsey Lohan, Mel Gibson, Lebron James, and a couple other well deserving suspects get thrown under the bus for episode 16..

AWWWW MAN, I can't stop laughing right now...

" Sound Boy Killing "

These days a gang of so-called reggae D.J.'s / selectors get on my god damn nerves....

1.. Just because you have money for dub plates doesn't mean you are a good D.J.

2..Yeah that song might be the hottest new thing in "yard" / Jamaica, but it still sounds crazy wack to my ears....

3..O.K., O.K., you ran that rhythm for ten minutes straight, but your transition into the next rhythm just train wrecked...OUCH...

4..I don't give a fuck how many sound effects you rock, it still can't cover up the fact that you are a rasclot jukebox.....

5..Quit faking jacks with that bullshit accent....Your ass isn't from Jamaica, and you sound crazy foolish trying to sound like you are...STOP PERPETRATING !!!!!!

I don't mean to sound negative or hyper-critical, I just believe that lately the bar has sunk so low that any new jack fool, truly believes he can spin reggae alongside the cream of the crop....

That's why I give "Shortkut" the two thumbs up.....He approaches reggae from Hip Hop sensibilities, which makes it very easy for him to slice through these paper thin, cornball selectors (And I'm not talking about Mind Motion, even though I have heard him get busy ten times better than this).......

I'm still not quite sure what to make of this sound clash, but it is a interesting listen nevertheless.....Peace to all my family in the Cayman Islands- see ya'll on New Years....

" D.J. Beat- Underground Railroad Mix "

With a non-descriptive name like "D.J. Beat", it's somewhat easy for this mix to get lost in the shuffle.....But after one listen I'm quite sure you will add this mix to your personal stash of goodies....

I posted this up over a year ago, and I feel that now is the perfect time to lace up the HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD posse if they missed it the first go-round......

So here you go famz...Enjoy..

" Still M.V.P. "

To be a truly fresh M.C. you have to have some quotables under your belt.....If I can't recite a couple lines from your rhymes than you are not doing your job....I'm not talking about memorizing jingles, I'm talking about remembering certain things that you said because it was that ILL...

That's why Kool G. Rap & Big L are my favorite M.C.'s......Shit, these two have scrolls of non-stop quotables....

G.Rap......"Death Wish"

Quotable- " A pimp that loves shrimp and lobster / and for a hobby I'm hitting niggas up like a mobster.....I got a story for each little poor territory / the ghetto glory in all categories "........BLAM..

Big L.....“Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous”

Quotable: “Yo I admit I’m a sucka, a lowdown dirty sneaky double-crossin’ connivin’ muthafucka / Breakin’ in cribs with a crowbar / I wasn’t poor, I was po’, I couldn’t afford the o-r.”

YIKES....That is just straight up ridiculous.......I could go on and on forever with memorable lines that G.Rap & "L" spit.....

Lord Finesse sat down with Paul Arnold (Hip Hop Dx) to talk about Big L's mindset during the classic "Lifestyles Of the Poor And Dangerous" sessions......YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS JACK !!!!

CHECK IN ...

Big L- "Represent"

Quotable- " I pack a gat not a slingshot / step to this and get an ass whipping like Rodney King got ....Or get beat to your death like cochice / my law say's no peace, fuck the police "............

" Hip Hop Battlefield Remix Series "

While most people were sleeping last night, I was up in the lab tapping out some next shit...WHEW.....I really hate to pat myself on the back, but I feel like I am in some type of crazy zone with the beats right now...

For this weeks remix I flipped the vocals from the U.N. "Nothing Lesser".....The original beat by Pete Rock is a god damn monster....Heavy layers of bass, odd noises coming from every direction, and of course crispy, well-cropped drums.....

So for my remix I wanted to try something different (As usual).....Instead of going the chaotic, hardcore route, I opted for more of a laid back, crime boss feel.....Don't get it twisted: you won't hear any cornball synths, or any of that other shit....Just raw, stripped down chops....

This is definitely in the top 20 of the best beats that I have ever made......BLAM.

* If you heard the original sample source- you would truly bug out because I sliced it up so crazily......LISTEN CLOSELY..

" Bob James Interview "

Bunch T.V. sits down with Bob James to talk Biz Markie and the mysterious "Mardi Gras" version without the cowbells (HAHA), Hip Hop, sampling, etc....I wish more artist that Hip Hop producers have sampled, would have the same attitude as Mr. James...

Do yourself a favor and check in-you might just learn something...

"Under The Radar Rockets: Beat Nuts Edition, Part 2"

Since a couple cats hit me up about the last edition of "Under The Radar Rockets", I feel that it is a must that I tap into that frequency once again...

The other day my dude "State" passed me a c.d. that had a ridiculous amount of heavy joints on it....One of the cuts was entitled "Robbed" by the Beat Nuts.....

WOW, I can't believe I never even knew about this shit...

By the sounds of things I assume this was recorded during the "Stone Crazy" era....Loud abrasive drums, sinister floating keys, and plenty gun talk..After doing a little research I found out that this mystery track was released on a project called "Rarest Nuts".

I'm not sure what record company put it out, or if it some black market type of secret release.....Regardless, grab yourself a cold drink, snatch up a oscillating fan, and prepare for some official DRAMA......

" Blog Shots 41 "

Cope 2 (KD) is a true heavyweight when it comes to graff.....For over 20 years now this man has been putting in a tremendous amount of work...

Did you know Cope did the cover art (Letters) for B.D.P's " Sex & Violence " album ?......

I could go on and on about his accomplishments, but instead of doing that, I will just point you in the direction of his blog.....Interesting video footage, pieces, updates, and all types of other shit !!!!!!

" Burn Your Face Off "

" In the 1980's graffiti was pushed out of the subways as the trains were cleaned once and for all. In the 1990's, much of the graffiti action in New York migrated to the city's walls, enabling the 'writers' to execute more refined and concept-driven large-scale pieces. By the end of decade, this new medium was being used to great effect. Photographers James & Karla Murray took great pains to faithfully capture an unprecedented re-birth of the movement, documenting the most significant murals created between 1996 - 2001. Broken Windows contains insightful interviews, an extensive selection of women s' graffiti, and features the work of more than 180 artists from The United States, Germany, France, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Italy, and Norway ".

" Summer Time Shenanigans "

Last weekend I headed up to Oakland hills for a little fiesta at legendary "Cray-One's" crib....Here is little info on Cray if you are not knowing....

1...Dude has been smashing the graff world for over 20 years now (Talk about putting in work)...

2.. Filmed and published several times, such as in the book "Spray Can Art", "Graffito", "Piece By Piece", and "Freight Train Graffiti".....

3..One of the first graffiti artist to have a one-man gallery show on the west coast...

I think by now you get the motherfucking point, dude is no JOKE !!!!!

We had a real good time...Food was poppin, sun was out, and I had an opportunity to have a real heated discussion with my dude, "Bas-One" (Style Elements Crew/ N.S. / WASET)....Talk about heated, the conversation got so out of control that we both ended up shouting the lyrics to the demo version of "Rock The Bells" at each other...

" Jack The Ripper, King Hercules, / Professor of death on the seven seas " .......(OH SHIT).....

Thank you "Bas" for that conversation...We are not playing when it comes to this Hip Hop !!!!!!!!!

" I'm thinking of taking my own life, might as well / except that they don't sell weed in hell....And that's where I'm going because the devil is inside of me / they make me rob from my own nationality ".........

(Sticky Fingers-Last Days)

BLAM, BLAM, BLAMZZZZZ......

I'm back with some more remix action for the HIP HOP BATTLEFIELD posse......

When I sat at my sampler yesterday making this beat, I knew deep down that I was dealing with some explosive frequencies...I was getting so hype, that I had to find a hype acapella to match the intensity of the sounds blasting out of my MPC..

Ahhhh, the "Evil Streets" by those crazy baldhead dudes Onyx........This has to be in the top three of the best songs that the trio has ever made....And the crazy thing about this song is that, "Fredro Star" made the original beat....

For some reason after 1995 I stopped hearing what he was capable of doing behind the boards (It's a shame because it sounded like he was headed in the right direction)....

Anyway, you know how I do.......All samples, all ugly, all Hip Hop Battlefield certified.....

" Still A Prince Amongst Thieves "

Prince Paul easily makes my top ten producers list.....While most fools were still in the process of raping James Brown's entire catalogue, Paul took things a step further and sampled from a wide spectrum of different genres before it became commonplace in the Hip Hop world.......

Of course he gets plenty of credit for introducing the skit, but he deserves more credit for being an all around hilarious character.....When I saw him spin a couple years back in Seattle, he had me laughing for the entire performance.

Maybe he should enter the realm of stand up comedy (I'm dead serious)......

Chris Faraone (Boston Phoenix) sat down with Paul recently for a quick interview......He discusses his feelings on Drake, Long Island, his son, etc....

" Let's Hear It For The B-Girls "

Martha Cooper and Nika Kramer first began documenting the new breed of B-Girlz in a breaking competition in Germany in 2004. Following the dancers to the biggest battles—including Mighty4 in San Francisco, the Spinfactor Finals in Rhode Island, Breaklanta in Atlanta, IBE in the Netherlands, and the International Battle of the Year in Germany—they photographed and interviewed B-Girlz representing everywhere from South Africa to New Zealand, from New York to California, and from Japan to Germany. Culminating in the first annual We B*Girlz competition at veteran B-Boy Ken Swift's studio in Brooklyn, Cooper and Kramer's work will introduce a new generation to the art of B-Girling.

"Milkcrate Jewels 24: Mista Sinista Edition"

So my new sound proof studio is finally finished.....A brother is really happy right about now my man...All my equipment is set up, no sound leaks, and the freshly laid carpet has that nice 2010 smell to it......To be honest, I haven't been this happy in quite sometime...

Only one fucking problem...

Transferring a dumb amount of records to the new spot............SHIT, I love vinyl to death, but this is just ridiculous....How much abuse can my back take while moving all of these god damn crates ?

Anyway, while looking through the magic crates I went on a crazy trip down memory lane.....Funny how some quality records get lost in the shuffle (When you have as many records as I do it's bound to happen)....

In the above pic I am holding up two records that feature "Mista Sinista" production.......The criminally slept-on "Cliffhangaz" (A.B. Universal, Kukuu Bag Of Bonez, etc) hit a home-run when it comes to sure shot singles with the hilarious skeezer anthem, "Curry Chicken Head"...

Don't sleep.....Cliffhangaz definitely do their thing on the mic, but Sinista's production is as equally dangerous....POW.POW..

And next up to bat is the hard to find "Insane Psycho Home" E.P...

Peep this cut entitled "Padded Walls" also produced by Mista Sinista..

2003 goodness..

I had the opportunity to chop it up with Sinista about ten years ago, and I was completely surprised at how humble he was...Dude even hopped in my car and listened to my beats (He gave me the nod of approval which made my day HAHAHA)........

So here's to you Sinista......

SALUTE.......

" Burn Your Face Off "

A couple years back I hit up my dude "Refa One" to bless me with a ill piece to hang up in the laboratory.....It took him a little while, but he eventually accomplished his mission...

" War Report 2 Shit "

To be honest I was a little skeptical when I heard CNN were going the War Report 2 route....Sure Raekwon, and Sadat X, pulled off the "sequel attempt" with flying colors, but could this Queensbridge duo recapture the magic of their debut ?

YES INDEED.....

Some of the beat selections are questionable- but they definitely stepped up their wordplay...All in all, War Report 2 is a well rounded album that showcases newfound growth....

Here are a couple shining moments....

"The Oath"- Produced by Hazardous Sounds- featuring Raekwon, and Busta Rhymes.......My top pick of the album...
